Editing (writing too) is a form of magick, if you ask me. Maybe not as drastic as touching something and turning it to gold or teleporting from Spain to Jupiter in a blink of an eye… But the act of editing transforms. You go from an unpolished, typo-ridden, sometimes-incoherent mess to something… better (maybe not perfect, but better). So, I suppose an editor is a word alchemist? That may be a bit too flashy of a title.
Anyway, as a novice novelist, I truly didn’t think a book would need to be edited more than two to three times. Boy was I very, very wrong! If I were to show you the first version of Chapter One (which wasn’t even a chapter—it was meant to be the beginning of a short story) and the “final” version I have right now… The difference is a bit embarrassing, but also humbling. I may be penning pages (normally with poetry) for over a decade now, but that doesn’t mean I’m the ultimate master of my craft. There is ALWAYS room for improvement—even for big-name authors. (That’s the reason why they’re successful… They know the secret: learning is a life-long sort of thing.)
SABL Book 1 been through about a dozen rounds of edits by yours truly, one round of edits by a professional editor, and has been read by several alpha and beta readers. I know for a fact that this book wouldn’t be what it is at this very moment without all that editing and objective assistance from others.
The book interior just got resubmitted for approval, which was a bummer because my goal was to have everything 100% finalized by Christmas, but hey, nobody is perfect. After this entire editing and refining process, one hiccup that really cost me is the title. While there were no spelling or grammar errors (thank The Etherique Forces!), there was a placement error which makes it seem like the fantasy series is called The Escapist and Book 1 is titled Sought After Blood Lines. I thought changing the order would be a breeze, but apparently, CreateSpace cannot change the title once it has been created. I contacted Amazon, so let’s see if they can fix it. If not, I’ll just be more careful for Book 2’s release.
The official Amazon release will occur right before the end of 2015. The paperback will be $9.99 and the e-book will be $2.99.
